The Start

I have begun!
Christmas is going to be a homemade feast of pretties...yep even the boys!
Mum gave me a hand today, because I had to fast track some presents. Yeh, to a sewing Mum who is awesome at it and even lines up those darn stripes! Yeh to me for getting started. I am hoping now that the ride has begun I can continue gaining momentum and get it all done by D day or C day!
Here is a peek at one part of the package.

Toothless Terror

Actually he is not a terror at all, but he has lost his second tooth! I feel like I need to do something for him...almost a coming of age thing..but what? Mmmmm, will have to ponder that some more. Meanwhile I hear you all saying, "Just be normal and do the tooth fairy thing!" That is all well and good, but we have never been normal here and I love the idea of doing our own thing...after all the tooth fairy thing must have started at a home level somewhere and others got wind of it and now parents everywhere are giving out the coins and stashing away the teeth! Perhaps we can start a tradition that goes global! Well, at least in this little world that I live in any way.
So I am away to ponder the tooth thing and to wonder about the memories that my babies will carry with them or to muse over whether they will be eternally damaged because we have refused to follow some of those wonderful childhood traditions?

Wonderful, Wacky Weekends

Some weekends for us are casual take it easy, catch up on the housework or with old friends....not this weekend.
We launched ourselves into a crazy weekend with a road trip up to Hannanvale for beautiful Aunty Rita's 90th. This was the start of our road trip...no more photo's because I forgot about the camera!
We caught up with relations that knew us and some that didn't! The kids had a blast playing with the other kids there. Pobj and I had to leave Connor and Kenzi with Mum and Dad (God Bless our mother and Father) because we were heading back down to Newcastle so we could cater for a wedding of some great friends of ours. This is all the yummy food that I set out for high tea. Very posh!
The wedding was at Tocal. What a beautiful place. He looked handsome and she looked beautiful (very Jane Austin). There was a spanner thrown into the equation with the onset of rain and wind...the high tea was supposed to be an outdoor reception. I made the call to move it inside when it was raining and looked like it had set in.....it turned out to be a beautiful spring evening after the storm, but what can you do.
Memories came flooding back of the day...that I do day when I married the man I loved most in the world. Now, 8 years on he is still the man I love most in the world...hmmmm weddings either make me cry eg. Calli and Andrew's wedding or make me rather nostalgic eg. Andy and Laura's wedding.
Exhausted by that massive effort.Pobj doing punch. Couldn't have done it without him!
Will post soon.

The Best Laid Plans

I was going to spend this afternoon writing a few posts that would post themselves over the next week.  I like being part of the blog even when I'm not near a computer.  But you know, the best laid plans and all that.  Our computer is heading to the computer doctor for a little rest and relaxation.  Just a little fine tuning, but it needs to be dropped off now.  So goodbye fair sisters.  I'll be back in about a week and a half, we're doing London, Wales, Bristol and Chatham.  That means salt and vinegar chips, Primark and more charity shops!  Aargh.

Got Milk

Banana milk shakes are a home taste (will I ever call Glen Oak anything other than home?).  I've drunk them from London to Amsterdam and so many other places in between, but they always taste of the farm.  No matter what is whizzed into the cup, as long as it's real banana I'm transported instantly back to the kitchen at home.

So this afternoon, I drink and I think of home.  It's not a long, deep missing like it is sometimes.  This kind of missing is the missing of all the good things that have been and all the good things that are to come.  There's still lots of memories to make, I have 2 whole months coming up to fill with sounds, scents, tastes and everything good that makes up home.  I can't wait.

Girls About Town

This was our day today. It seems that housework will never get done, but the call of Spring was far to loud to ignore and so we made memories instead of beds, caught pigeons instead of dust bunnies, admired others plantings instead of weeding ours!
I love Spring!

Yumminessmetre

The cake was goooood.  Light and sticky and fruity and good.  Pretty sweet so more of a dessert cake than an everyday cake.  A few slices tasted like the last thing I'd cooked in the pan- tomato and garlic and onion!  A different kind of spiced apple cake.  But the majority of it was yumminess.  And welcome back Kt Mac, we've missed you!

Baking Flowers

Today I was making the apple cake with toffee topping from Falling Cloudberries, recipe here (thanks Trin!).  When I was mixing the batter I lifted the arm of the Kenwood and this little beauty was left behind.  Our house truly is filled with flowers!  Report to come on tastiness of cake.

Sew...a needle pulling thread!

"The only place that housework comes before sewing is in the dictionary." I have no idea who said that but it was true of my last few days while I got my prototype for Christmas presents for all my girls ready.
They turned out beautifully...and the model was stoked that they were hers.
So, without further ado here are my pyjama's that I made for all the little lovelies!

Spring Things

Sun dappled walk ways on the way to the library.
Magnolia Flowers
Climbing trees and scraping knees.
Protecting the house from those nasty spring dragons. The bow and arrow was most affective after she lured them in with a yummy spring orange!

HipHipHooray for Fathers

Today was Father's Day in Oz.
We celebrated in style...well we celebrated in our house with our kind of style.
It's so nice to be able to celebrate special people in your life. Special people who love you well. Special people who would do anything for you. Special people who build sewing rooms because you say you want one. Special people who listen and offer time matured information. Special people who know you and still love you. Special people who love your children. Thanks Dad for all these special things that you do...but for most of all who you are...You are amazing!
This is Dad showing his Oh so appalling Father's day present...but at least Kenzi didn't eat his like she ate Brenton's!
