Hair, princesses and Unveilings

Today we made tiara's and dressed as Princesses. Kenzi wore hers to pick-up - I did not!
We waved regally at our subjects and rescued a royal ladybug!
We also hung some pictures in my sewing room (They are patterns!). Here is a peak of a sewing room that is getting lots of use even though it is not yet finished!
We covered these cork boards in fabric for me to put all those inspirational things that spur me on to make something.
My machine and overlocker look ever so comfortable in their little spots.
I have always thought that the mark of a good haircut is how it is after the first wash. I like it, although am still getting used to the doing part - today I feel frumpy and daggy!
My fashionista five year old! She has three skirts on and insisted on dressing herself. I think she looks awesome and I love her style. I may steal it this summer, although I don't need the extra padding of three skirts at the moment!

Lady bugs that Kenzi made. All you need is rocks, red, white and black paint and a handy dandy clean up clothe for the table!
Look at these amazing flowers that jumped into my car when we went up to the farm on the weekend. Promise they just begged to be allowed to be admired in my house rather than ignored up at the farm. They were so lonely I couldn't just leave them there!

Some things i fancy

Listen Closely, Cause I Have to Whisper

I had a crafty evening with the girls last night but I was so busy crafting, eating and chatting (well, really more busy eating and chatting than crafting) that I forgot to take any pictures.  You'll just have to take my word for it that it was SO nice having a few girls around to sit about, stitch, munch and yak.  Good.  Good.  Good.  And in place of last night, I give you...The Weekend!
I'm about to whisper, so come closer.  I have a secret to admit.  I like Autumn better than Summer.  Shhhh.  Don't squeak and let anyone else know that I've just admitted something that I NEVER thought I would.  Anyway, the season-love gets all changed around in the Northern Hemisphere.
In Summer I'm expecting sunshine and beaches and ice cream and warm bones and overhead fans.  So when it's rainy and grey and occasionally ridiculously muggy and there's mosquitos and sometimes you even have to wear a scarf and put the heater on, that's just not fun.
So when Autumn comes, and you know it's meant to be overcast but it feels more cozy and broody than Summer grey, and the leaves start to change colour and float in blankets on the canals, and the sun comes out some days to squeeze out just a little bit of warmth, then it's ok to put a scarf on, to snuggle on the couch under a blanket and drink warm milo.
And it's wonderful to be outside, to be rained on, sunned on , winded on and just generally feel all ruddy and alive.  That's what we did on Sunday.
We filled a thermos, a grand pink thermos-thanks Kt Mac, full of yummy carrot soup and after church headed into Amsterdamse Bos.  We hung our legs over the side of a bridge and sipped our soup and sunned our noses.
Then we went wandering and found crazy carnivorous plants and got our toes wet in the boggy bits.  Oh Autumn.  How I love thee.

Madi Moo Ha

Just because I thought I would have a chance to call and I didn't, I thought blogging in bed would be the next best thing to wish Madi a very happy Christening?/dedication?/happy day? tomorrow. I am sure you will look beautiful in your dress and Mummy and Daddy will take lots of photo's as you are being splashed?/dunked?/licked? so that we can see and feel like we are there. We think you are beautiful and very special and we love you very much.

Mr Birthday Boy!

I just designed invites for Connor's 8th Birthday. I will print them off on coloured card and cut them out into their seperate little bits and put them into nifty little envelopes that Connor, Kenzi and I will make. I was inspired by the beautiful Swedish bride's wedding invites with all the bits and bobs! Now I just have to organise the party games, food and make 20 something calico bags so they can paint their favourite Mr Men character on it! A little sister help would not go astray at this time! What, you can't make it till December....oh well, must get planning by myself then!
Oh, by the way, Mum and Dad if you read this before I speak to you thank you for unwittingly and unknowingly volunteering to make Connor's day and have the party at the farm....promise I will do everything else!

Battle of the Chins

This is what we do when Andrew works from home on Fridays.  We play.  It was chin play today.  And the winner is?  Not sure.  I think we both have a fair crack at getting gold in the chin stakes.

Disclaimer: If any of Andrew's work colleagues are out there reading this, he is generally stuck to his computer slaving away.  Except for 10 o'clock coffee.  That's why this happened.  It's the lack of caffeine with the promise of caffeine to come.  Seriously.

Yippety Do Da - things to shout about!

I made good playdough for the first time this morning. I was really excited! Normally it is gluggy and awful!
The crabs are done hibernating and so we went for a crab spotting walk.
Kenzi had a bath in a bucket - poor povo girl, especially using the dishwashing scrubber!
Especially for Linny to show that my kids do get lollies and chippies and Milo! Morning tea this morning.
A Da sausage roll after a wrestle last night!

Calli's Crafties.

And Trinny, this is what I've been up to lately.  Salvaging my washing machine mistakes.  Exhibit A: a jumper of Andrew's that became a little too midriff after washing.  Slashed up the front, sewn with old ribbon and lace.  Voila, something a little weird for Calli to wear.

Joining in the Fun

I thought I'd show off the pretties that I got seeing as Lin was showing hers.
These were bought in that Gothenburg op shop.  Pillow cases.  Quilt cover.  Skirt.  All old and loved.  Now new to me and still loved.  Unfortunately no hitting things with a car stories to go with them.  Poop.

You've got to give-give-give, give it away!

I thought it was time for a bit more give-away love.  Actually, it's always time for give-away love.
Today's choice of lovin' is a bag, a kinda wonky, crazy bag.  But also a big, handy-dandy, full of lovin' bag.
It's my Svenska bag, the suede strap is one I bought in Gothenburg from this great (and I seriously mean great) op shop and the fabric is from IKEA, cause it can't be Sweden unless it can be flat-packed.  And because love is sweet, I'll also throw in your choice of a chocolate letter.
It can be any letter, not just one of the ones in the picture (they're already reserved for South Africa).

So, to win, leave a comment (or knowing you guys it will be 'comments') telling me what you'd carry in your bag.  I think it would make a perfect library bag.  Or great for a little blanket, a good book and a mini picnic.  And remember to tell me which chocolate letter you'd like.  Otherwise I might have to keep the sweet part of the lovin'!

The competition ends 2 weeks from now, on the 22 October.  It'll be a random number pick again, cause I'm rubbish at picking a favourite, and once the number is picked I'll buy your letter and send the pack anywhere it needs to go in the world.  So, what would you keep in your bag?

A Smitter Smattering of Things

We have eaten pepermint and choc chip icecreams thanks to generous grandparents.
We have eaten bubblegum icecream thanks to generous grandparents and to the horror of her mother!
We have posed on the pelican at the pelican park.
We have ridden the Pelican Express with before mentioned Grandparents.
We have made bright pink meringue in our bakers hat with our very special apron.
We made carrot cake.
We nearly mastered riding without training wheels.
We enjoyed the first day of day light saving with an after tea ride.
We bounced and laughed.
We took photo's of ourselves.
And more photo's of ourselves! (Like mother, like daughter)
We painted welcome home signs.
We painted dolls furniture.
We sewed a summer dress.
We breathed.
We Loved.
We Lived.
