Clever Clogs

I cannot knit...well I can but it is never very good. In fact the results always look as though someone has used my scarf to sheild themselves against enemy fire and consquently died. To that end I am amazed and admire greatly people who can knit. One such knitter is our wonderful Mumma. She is even more wonderful in the eyes of Kenzi because not only does she knit jumpers that keep her warm, she also knits ballerinas that can dance and prance and play.
Thank you Mumma for this amazing toy. We love things with no batteries, that are handmade, very special and can turn upside down.
Oh, and just before anybody complains that they have not got one or two as the case may be...I am sure that they are just around the corner...after a trip to Amsterdam!

Go!

Have I posted these photo's? Him with the long legs and red shirt lolloping along.
I was so proud I will post them again.

He came first and enjoyed it.

A Bird in A Tree

The doctor ordered us to take time off school to rest and get better. We could think of no better way to do that than to sew. This is Kenzi's very first I did it all by myself sewing project on the machine. I think it made her feel heaps better and so was just what the doctor ordered.Tree pillow can be used as a battering ram or some scary sort of weapon in battles also!

Crazy Hair Day

Being at a school allows your crazy side to escape every so often. The kids loved it....my white tiled shower did not!

FBI

FBI for us does not stand for Federal Bureau of Investigations it stands for Fun Brain Institute.
We go ever other Tuesday and learn great stuff with very fun people.
Transport was our theme a little while ago. We learnt about vehicles and force and motion. We created and made our own transport. We made a hovercraft. We saw how hovercrafts work and just how many people could sit on a table with balloons under it.
We always have fun at FBI.

Not Mine

I have this child. I don't think she can be mine, although she does look a little like me. She hasn't eaten for 3 days. This morning she was feeling a little more chipper.
"I am a little hungry Mummy. Could I have a meat pie?"
Definitely not my daughter.

Wanna See Something Funny/Kinda Gross?

(37wks 3 days, with poppy-out belly button to gross out Kt Mac)
I just had a delivery from a maternity care company that hires out the stuff you need here in The Netherlands.
Firstly there are the bed-raisers, or the bed-hyers as the maternity care lady wrote the other day. These little babies will be popped under the legs of our bed so that it's high enough for the midwives and maternity care staff to not pop their backs. Or high enough for me to feel like a princess. Take your pick. And secondly (this is the kinda gross part), I got a one of these. I'm not sure what the correct terminology is but it's for catching the placenta in so the midwife can have a look at it. I think this one might be put under the bed out of sight until it's needed. I do NOT need to wake up in the morning to the sight of this!

The Moolet

I had to have an ultrasound on Saturday as Moo's head has not yet engaged. The kids head has been down for yonkers, just not down enough. Everything was fine, Moo just seems to be happy kicking about right where s/he is for now. It was cool getting to see pictures again, although things are MUCH squishier in there now.

We think Moo has Kenzi's lips in the first picture, and a rather squashed nose.

Outside My Window

The weather has been H.O.T. here for the past little while so lots of window-sitting and water-spraying has been happening. It's been so great having this time to sit and observe things going on outside on the street. Here are a few of the happenings...
I spied this little car out the window during the World Cup. Not a great paint job but the owner's commitment to his team was impressive. The Dutch football team returned slightly triumphantly from the World Cup (they came second). There was only going to be a canal parade if they won, but obviously someone decided that second deserved a parade too! The route took them right past our window. People started arriving 4 or 5 hours before the parade was scheduled to start, these Dutchies are keen. It was pretty cool though, there were songs, flags, vevuzelas, Mexican waves around the canal, swimmers in the canal, Police trying to wet people on the side of the canal with waves from their boats, and LOTS of orange. This was all before the team was even anywhere near a boat or the water, it was seriously MANIC (although at some point I did manage to fall asleep during it, I'm impressed with my sleeping abilities obviously inherited from Dad). One of our colourful across-the-canal neighbours. I think the tourists strolling past may agree.Crazy, amazing lightening and rain storms. I've never seen rain like it. The roads were indistinguishable from the canals.Around 100 horse and carts went past during one of the storms. We have no idea what was going on but it was like being transported back to the 19th century with the rain beating down and the dim glow of the street lights illuminating people huddled on/in their carriages with umbrellas, blankets and anything to keep them dry.

I love looking out our window. It now takes up more of my time than uni work ever did!

This is Not Pesto

It's what I like to call 'Heaven in a Jar'.

If you ever have an overabundance of strawberries, or just a hankering for something heavenly to spread on your toast, please, please, please make this. It's fresh strawberry spread from Dinner: A Love Story. We've been buying the sweetest strawberries from the market on Saturday and they've been cheap as they're starting to go bad. We sort through the strawberries, discard the truly horrible ones, put the edible ones in a container for general consumption and the sad looking ones go into another container to be made into true goodness. True to form, I don't exactly follow the recipe as it's more:
  • As many bad strawberries are left, topped and chopped
  • About 1/3 cup of sugar
  • Whatever lemon juice unfreezes from the bag I keep on the fridge in time to be used (maybe 2 tablespoons?)
Then it's put on a low heat to simmer away for a little while (usually more than 10 minutes as I generally forget about it), cooled and then whizzed in the blender.

We've made this twice and it gets gobbled up pretty quickly. We've had it on scones, toast, sandwiches and yogurt. Mmmmm.
And the best way to clean up the blender? Throw in:
  • 1 frozen banana
  • Milk
  • Yogurt
  • Honey (we only have honeycomb at the moment so the bottom of the drink becomes a little waxy!)
Whizz til frothy and scrumptious.

H-h-h-heaven.
